When Love Is Truth Serum

Sometimes love shows you where you are blind to yourself – your actions, your behaviors, and your emotions.

It is not there to punish you, even though it can feel that way sometimes. The lessons can be painful. People you thought cared about you may not. People betray others. You get lied to. You get emotionally hurt. You may try to conform to what you think they want. You may lose yourself.

All of this can keep you in a powerless place. You can blame, justify, deny, or avoid looking at what is actually happening within you.

True accountability takes awareness. It takes seeing clearly.

The world will show you what you are hiding from yourself and what you are not yet aware of.

You may not even be doing it on purpose. Some behaviors are so deeply ingrained that they feel completely normal to you, even when they are hurting you and possibly hurting others you love.

But I can tell you this: when love actually shows up, it is a game changer.

Love becomes the truth serum for everything in your life that is not love.

We are not always aware of the places where love is missing because the world, situations, and even people can make us feel really good for a while.

Within myself, I can see that there have been varying degrees of love - probably only as much as I was capable of holding at the time, which honestly was not very much for a lot of my life.

Love shows you how you feel inside and how you feel about yourself first, then how you love another person, and eventually how you experience the world around you.

You may think you have love, and then one day you realize that a person or situation is actually showing you where you do not love yourself, where old trauma was never acknowledged, or where you still need to grow in order to become a better human being.

Love can bring something hidden to the surface through a trigger.

Sometimes the intensity of what you feel is not only about what is happening in front of you. It is touching something much older underneath it.

Love can touch the place in you where you learned that closeness was dangerous. And it can show you where you care enough to look at that trigger, because it might be keeping you from the very thing that matters most.

That is another way love becomes truth serum.

It does not only show you what feels good. Sometimes it reveals the places inside you that learned to protect themselves from the very thing you now want to receive because receiving it hurt you before.

The trigger is not always evidence that something is wrong with the love.

Sometimes it is evidence that love has reached a place in you that has never felt safe enough to be touched before.

And once you truly feel love, it becomes very difficult to accept anything less.

Because now you know the difference.

You cannot unknow it.

You cannot comfortably live in denial anymore.

You begin to recognize what is real.

Real love cannot be faked.

That does not mean you cannot stay stuck. You absolutely can. That is part of free will.

But it is a little like staying at Motel 6 your whole life and then spending a night at the Crowne Plaza.

You can go back to Motel 6 if you choose.

But now you know the difference.

It is always your choice whether you take accountability, grow, and become a better version of yourself.

Sometimes that requires asking for forgiveness for something we were not aware of at the time. Sometimes it means acknowledging how our unhealed parts affected another person and ourselves.

Sometimes the lesson is simply to become different because of what we now understand within.

When you know better, you can choose to do better.

And if you choose not to evolve, life has an interesting way of continuing to reflect back the places that still need your attention.

Earth school will keep offering up the lesson.

Love may show up again or the lack of it will.

It is up to you to step into it, or to finally see where you have been blocking it from coming in.

That right there is when love becomes the very medicine you need and when you can finally be grateful for what it came to show you.
